Work More, Get Less!
According to recent study Workers in the US have been over 33% more productive while houry raises just rose just a little more than 10% between 1995 and 2005. For my fellow college graduates you will be happy to know that entry level wages have fallen $.79 for men and $.33 for women (per hour) since 2000. All of this and the number of companies that offer benefits (retirement plan/health insurance) has gone down. So as I sit here working towards my JD I offer my best wishes to my friends and anyone who else who is a recent graduate trying to find a job out there. Link
Also there was something else interesting on the same page. A salary comparison calculator that shows the difference between how much salary is really worth in certain areas of the country. The median american family makes $46,326 according to the WSJ so we'll use that for a rubric. If you make $35,617.82 in Orlando, Florida it is the equivilent to making $46,326 in Providence, Rhode Island due the amount of many you would save in housing, groceries, utilities, transportation, and healthcare. The gap grows if you use New York City, Manhattan or Queens, with the former being much worse. If you happen to make the national median in Orlando, you would have to make $98,859 in Manhattan to live an equivelent life style. Is it me or is that slightly insane. Link
(For those of you who didn't get it the title is a reference to Target's Get More, Pay less campaign)
